Lip Balm Sticks
These make great gifts and are so easy to make. They last a lot longer than many commercial lip balms, and of course, you know you aren't ingesting any nasty chemicals. Personalise with your faviourite oils and you'll never buy commercial lip balm sticks again!

Equipment
- Double Boiler (jug or bowl over simmering water)
- Spoon for stirring
Ingredients
- 15 grams beeswax
- 15 grams coconut oil solid form
- 8 grams shea butter
- 8 grams cocoa butter
Essential oils
- 10 drops Peppermint essential oil
- 5 drops Lavender essential oil only use a pure oil such as doTERRA that states it is suitable for flavouring use
Optional
- 1 pinch pigment (such as organic beetroot powder, mica or mineral makeup) if using mineral make-up, ensure it is a quality product and does not contain toxic ingredients
Instructions
- Line up empty lip balm tubes, take lids off and make sure they have been twisted down
- Fill a large saucepan with 3-5 cm of water and bring to a boil
- Measure butters and oils and place in glass jug or bowl
- Once boiling, add glass jug or bowl to saucepan
- Stir every few minutes until ingredients are melted and combined
- Remove from the heat and let it sit for 3 minutes before adding essential oils
- If you would like a tinted lip balm, add a pinch of coloured mineral makeup until you get your desired colour and stir until combined
- Pour mixture into lip balm containers and leave to cool
Notes
- This recipe makes 45 grams of lip balm so make sure you have enough containers. This recipe will make approximately 10 lip balm tubes. You can always reduce the batch size by cutting the recipe in half.
- If you want a harder lip balm, add an additional 15 grams of beeswax. For an even softer lip balm, add an additional 15 grams of coconut oil.
